What a weekend. Another great Russell Fork season has come and gone, but that doesn't mean there's no more water. Keep your eye on the gauges, there is 8 feet of water left to release to get to winter pool.

The Russell Fork Rendezvous and Lord of the Fork extreme race is this weekend. Admission includes camping, $10. The race is Saturday afternoon at 1:30. Come on out and enjoy this amazing place!

Kip
Hi there. I'm coming down with a group from Radford University (4-8)for the Rendevous. I paddled the Gorge in '04, but never the Upper RF, Pound, or Lower RF. My question is it worth it to launch from the dam, or we better off to use Bartlick. We'd like to do a couple of laps on the Upper for Saturday. Which is better Upper vs. Lower? Also, do you know of anyone who might be interested in joining us who is familiar with the run. It's so muh better when someone knows all the cool (and not so cool) spots. If we camp at the island, who do we see about payment? Thanks,
Kip

The Lord of the Fork Race is today, Sunday, meet at 1:00 at garden hole.
10/29/ at 13:42.

steve
Saturday Update: Fork is running over 4000cfs. Should drop enough for the Lord of the Fork race on Sunday. Upper & lower are good to go at this level (big, like gauley stuff). Grassy Creek will be running all day Saturday, we'll decide this morning if we're going to race on it.
10/28/ at 12:45.

steve
At 9:35 friday morning, grassy was at a minimum run level and rising. The Fork is rising slowly, but has a LONG way to go to have a negative effect on the race.
10/27/ at 14:14.

adam herzog
Any guesses on a level Friday? I am planning on getting up there between 3 and 4. Anyone up for a run?
10/26/ at 22:04.

jay
just in case, we have a high water back up plan for the race: grassy creek race and high water gorge race with a top drop rodeo. extra points if you can loop a Tornado. If you're coming for the race, we may need to be a little bit flexible about the start time or even which day we have the real gorge race if we get all this rain. see you saturday.
jay
10/26/ at 04:31.

1-minute interval starts. it's too tight to put people head-to-head through towers and fist. i used to think that would be fun, but then i realized that the person starting on the right would win, and the person on the left would die. this would make the awards ceremony a little confusing for some people.
jay
10/12/ at 16:42.

How does the race start!
Same time or staggered race start?

Race details: Lord of the Fork Race, Saturday Oct. 28th, start time around 2:00, but show up at Garden Hole no later than 1pm to register (or register the night before at take-out campsite.) We had initially asked for a registration fee, but instead we are going to ask for donations to help offset our costs. (we would suggest a donation of about $10 or more if you have it to spare.) We also ask that every racer bring something to donate to the prize stash, it can be in the traditional rf race prize form, or it can be cash, beverages, gear, food, etc. (anything goes, just bring something that you think would make a nice addition to the prize table.) We are still looking for volunteers to set safety. We will have a prize raffle for volunteers. The race is very dangerous, make sure you know about Fist, and know the course in general prior to racing, and make sure you are fit enough to paddle all-out for 10-15 minutes. Paddle whatever craft you like in the race, we don't have categories based on boat length. Fastest person wins.

about 2:00, although we need people to register earlier in the day or even the nght before if possible. plan to be at garden hole no later than 1. i'll post more race details sometime in the next couple weeks.

Nate
What time will the race start on Saturday? If there is no official start time, about what time has the race started in the past?
10/10/ at 15:42.

steve
!!SCOUT FIST!!
Fist has changed radically over the last year. There is a large hole funneling most of the flow directly into the crack. The traditional line is VERY SKETCHY. Don't count on the fire escape at 800cfs, 900cfs to be confident there.
The home boy line at release is scrape extreme river left into the eddy above the crack, then HAIRY FERRY out. Be CAREFUL!!!
